Watai Mukoni is another veteran Luhya musician from Malava town in Western Province. Having no formal education, Watai started his musical career back in 1943 singing with well known local musicians from his area. Playing the Luhya traditional instrument, Shiriri (a one stringed fiddle), Watai a local celebrity, now performs with his son Solomon Watai and other young musicians including Jacob Lubwa, Evans Luke and Peter Werenalo as Muting'ong'o Jazz band. He describes his music style as Shiriri and through his music hopes to promote the Luhya culture to peoples of different backgrounds. His Luhya song 'Raka Omulembe' (To Plant Peace) encourages people of the world to promote peace wherever they go.
