about

Charles Obuya, Wycliffe Kaboge (percussionists) and Joseph Nyamungu (nyatiti player) were all at one point in their musical careers based at the Kenya National Theatre, having learnt their art under the proverbial mugumo tree. Having worked with several traditional music groups, they came together this year to form Owiny' Sigoma, a traditional jazz group. Their Kiswahili song 'Dunia' (The World) is imbued with traditional African drum beats and the syncopated melodies of the nyatiti, an eight string Luo instrument. It is a rallying call to all those who fight for survival and struggle for a better life in Africa.
